Jonathan Monk employs a wide range of media to engage the viewer in a relationship with historical, and/or future artifacts and events. The British artist’s ongoing text series of numbered “meetings”—each providing a location, time and future date—invite speculation as to the details, purpose and likelihood of the gathering. As future events, the “meetings” exist between the anticipation of an upcoming moment and potential nostalgia or speculation after the “meeting” has happened. Meeting #27 was included in Inset.
